Results of the Run for the Paws 5k – April 7, 2013 – Fletcher Park – Fletcher, NC

Terrific weather for this event at Fletcher Park for a very important cause – Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.  A nice turnout, but down 10% from last year (244 finishers this year compared to 271 finishers in 2012).  I would have run this race but I did a 10k trail race yesterday.  Congratulations to Alejandro Arreola from Charlotte, NC as first overall and first male. Run for the Paws 5k – April 7, 2013 – Fletcher Park – Fletcher, NC

A great race for a very important cause – Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. It’s a Sunday afternoon (1:30 PM) race and quite a hootenanny for people and dogs. I’ve attended this event before and I highly recommend it.

ABOUT THE RACE

Put on your running shoes and get ready to help pets in need at the 3rd Annual Run for the Paws 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk on Sunday, April 7th at Fletcher Park in Fletcher, NC. Registration is $25 from 1/1 to 3/31, and $30 from 4/1-4/5. Fee includes entry, race t-shirt, and light refreshments. Packet pickup will be on Saturday, April 6th from 1-7pm at the BWAR ReTail Store, located at 38 Glendale Avenue in Asheville, just across the street from the Adoption Center.

The run/walk will begin and 1:30 and will be followed by a free Wagging Wellness Fair for pets and people featuring awards, live music and tasty food for purchase.

There will be plenty of events for the dogs too. In addition to doggie games and nail trims, the furry attendees will get to check out all kinds of items at the pet vendor expo, showcasing the many goods and services available to pet parents in the Asheville area.

Bring the whole family for a fun afternoon in the park!

Reindeer Run 5k – December 8, 2012 – Fletcher Park – Fletcher, NC

This race is run at dusk (5:00 PM) and is presented by the Four Seasons Running Club. You can’t get much flatter than Fletcher Park. From the race organizers:

The 2012 Reindeer Run Presented by the Four Seasons Running Club will be a unique 5k held at Fletcher Park at dusk. Runners will enjoy a course accented with Christmas lights and luminaries. This family friendly event will be fun for all ages. Come celebrate the season with a great family run, finished off with Cookies and Hot Chocolate.

Race starts at 5:00 pm and will wind through Fletcher Park’s flat and fast 5k course to enjoy the Park’s Christmas Lights and Luminaries. Awards will take place at 6:30 pm with Hot Chocolate and Cookies.

Brad Smith – a local Western North Carolina triathlete – suffered a bad cycling injury recently and cannot feel his legs. A network of supporters has organized a silent auction on July 10, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Fletcher Park. The proceeds will help his family with the expense of medical equipment and other bills.

Some super cool donated items have already come in for the upcoming silent auction to benefit Brad Smith — Bike tune ups, gift certificates galore, custom fitted orthotics, I-9 wheels, BIKES!, camping equipment, gym memberships, club memberships, local triathlon race entries, eBiz Consultations and much much more! Thank you to everyone in the community that is coming together to make this event a huge success to help Brad!

Four Seasons Greenway 5k – Four Seasons Running Club – Fletcher Park – Fletcher, NC – June 18, 2010

Four Seasons Greenway 5k at Fletcher Park

There are plenty of slots open for this race so don’t worry about the 200 runner limit, just come on out. Registration is from 5:15 to 6:15 PM and the race will start at 6:30 PM. Awards will be presented for first place finishers in 10-year age groups. Awards are Foot Rx gift certificates.

Fletcher Park is the venue for an increasingly long list of races these days (can you say flat?) and the Four Season Greenway 5k is the latest addition to the list. This race is the inaugural race from the Four Seasons Running Club and will be run on Friday, June 18th at 6:30 PM. The race will showcase the new Greenway that recently opened on the backside of Fletcher Park. It’s an impressive, wide new trail through the woods that crosses under Mills Gap Road running along Cane Creek, ending at the railroad tracks. Even in warm weather this stretch is likely to be cooler because of its shady nature.

The race is just $5 (no shirt for this race, but come on – it’s just 5 bucks) and will be limited to the first 200 runners. Registration will be available at Foot Rx in Asheville and starting Thursday, June 10th registration forms will be available at Sports Cellar, Hibbett Sports, and the Chamber of Commerce in Hendersonville.

Sunday afternoon runs are becoming quite the rage at Fletcher Park. Here’s Run for the Hills at 2:00 PM on May 2, 2010.

Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy is excited to host the Run for the Hills Fun Run at Fletcher Community Park in the Town of Fletcher. This event is designed to raise community awareness about local conservation and the Fletcher Greenway. Outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels can participate in the Fun Run and all proceeds go toward saving the places you love.

This race is described as a fun run (aren’t all runs fun?) and they have used the term “non-competitive” but I think that’s just to encourage everyone to come out whether you’re running or walking. Just like all races the intent is a good time for people to get out and move around. There are awards for the top 3 females and males and for the first place finishers in each age group.

In addition to the 5K Fun Run, CMLC will also host a free family-orientated festival at Fletcher Community Park. Race participants can check-in for the race, and then enjoy the festival with their family before and after the race. The Finish-line Festival will feature various vendors and educational activities. Festival-goers can expect a fun-filled afternoon of fitness, music, and local conservation.

The weather did not cooperate for this great event to benefit animals. But, plenty of people turned out in the rain and 113 people finished the 5k. A big shout out to Will Harlan for a double header sweep this weekend. He was the first finisher in the Run for the Paws 5k the day after he was the first finisher in the Colon Cancer Awareness 5k.
