Here’s a description of the course – no map yet:
The marathon is run ENTIRELY on the scenic grounds of the Biltmore Estate. It will cover both the east (paved) and west (dirt roads) sides of the Estate. During the event, vehicular traffic will be limited and controlled. The course will be USATF certified and bib chip timing will be used for the event. Pre-race training prior to the event is prohibited since the entire course is on the private property of the Biltmore Estate. Due to directional flow for traffic, it will not be possible to drive the course as it is to be run. All participants must be off the course by 1:30pm (6 1/2 hr time restriction).
The marathon course is run entirely on the scenic grounds of the Biltmore Estate. The first seven miles of the course has two tall hills, while the middle section of the course is downhill-to-flat with a mixture of valley and rolling terrain. The final miles of the marathon are completely flat.
Beginning at Antler Hill Village, the course climbs to the Deerpark Restaurant then descends and climbs along the main road to Biltmore House, where runners will loop by, within feet from the massive main entrance doors of the House, to enter the Walled Garden. Runners will then edge along the Azalea Garden and lagoon paralleling the French Broad River and transition onto packed dirt carriage trail roads. Runners will cross the newly built bridge that connects the east and west side of the estate and run through scenic rolling terrain, by vintage farmhouses and through working vineyards. Marathoners will do an ‘outer’ and then an ‘inner’ loop on the west side of the estate. After runners explore west quarter vistas of the Biltmore House normally off-limits to the public, they will return to the east side to finish the marathon with a few miles of an out and back on the flat, dirt road that parallels the French Broad river. Runners will loop run past the lagoon and near the equestrian center before returning for the final leg of the event where runners will finish at Antler Hill Village.
