Skirt Chaser/Foot Tag 5k – June 6, 2012 – Fletcher Park – Fletcher, NC

Wednesday, June 6, 2012 is National Run Day and you can pop over to Fletcher Park to celebrate by participating in this race. Here is the information from the race organizers at Foot Rx:

Come out June 6 to Fletcher Park for a different type of 5k. We call it a “Skirt Chaser”. Women will start 2 minutes before the men, & the men must catch up to be in the top 15 overall who will receive awards. EVERY runner will receive a voucher for a free pair of Drymax socks to be redeemed at Foot Rx Asheville. Entry fee is $15, which will pay for Race #3 of the Tag Challenge later this year (see The Foot Rx blog for complete Foot Tag Challenge details). If you paid for Foot Tag Challenge #1, you have already paid for this event. Registration will begin at 5:30 pm & the race will start at 6:30 pm. Hotter than Haiti 10k – August 11, 2012 – Asheville Outdoor Center – French Broad Greenway – Asheville, NC

A new 10k race with a unique course, starting at the Asheville Outdoor Center (near Carrier Park) and traveling the French Broad Greenway and up into West Asheville. Here is additional information about the race and Consider Haiti, the organization that benefits from the race.

The Hotter than Haiti 10K will be taking place on Saturday, August 11th @ 8:00 AM. The race starts and finishes at the Asheville Outdoor Center along the river and near Carrier Park and the campground.

The race will benefit “Consider Haiti” – or most recently known as Mission Manna. We recently changed the name to Consider Haiti to avoid further local confusion with Manna FoodBank and Mission Hospitals.

Consider Haiti is a 10+ year old local volunteer driven organization focused solely on improving children’s health in Haiti. We work primarily in the Montrouis area of Haiti and strive to achieve our goals by:

1. taking two medical trips per year (all paid for by the individual volunteers);
2. sustainable nutrition (in the form of goats, rabbits, and a host of crops we are growing);
3. Community Health agents (all Haitians) that work ad check in with the sickest families/children, and
4. Clean water programs- using biosand water filters.

Race timing will be handled by Right on Time Productions. Here is a description of the course (followed by a map):

Official route of the first annual Hotter than Haiti 10K – August 11, 2012 8:00 AM. Race starts and finishes at the Asheville Outdoor Center. The course is mostly along the French Broad River and Hominy Creek including an out and back on the Hominy Creek Greenway in West Asheville.

The Asheville Police Department is fully on board and have approved this route. In addition, we will have two police officers along the 100 yard section of the course on Shelburne Road.

The only roads the course runs on is Shelburne Road (about 100 yards) and Hominy Creek Road.

Chattooga River Ultra Trail 50k – June 3, 2012 – Mountain Rest, SC

This is an ultra trail race in Mountain Rest, SC (about 20 miles northwest of Clemson, SC) and part of the South Carolina Ultra Trail Series. The 50k occurs twice – once on June 2 (Saturday) and once on June 3 (Sunday). Slots are limited – June 2 is FULL but as of this posting, there are slots available on June 3. Here’s some of the information from the race organizers:

Run along the wild and scenic Chattooga River in the mountains of South Carolina, pass by waterfalls and go through some of the most beautiful wilderness in the state. The course is an out-and-back, starting and finishing at Cherry Hill Campground.

Directions to start: Coming from Walhalla on SC Hwy 28, bear right onto SC 107. Drive approximately 8.5 miles to Cherry Hill Recreation Area, entrance on your right. There is a parking area at the top near the entrance for those not camping. Cherry Hill has 29 campsites, water, flush toilets and showers for a $10 fee per night. There is also camping and cabins at Oconee State Park, about 6 miles from the start. Seneca has numerous motels and there is a motel in Walhalla.

Results of the Rock 2 Rock 10k Trail Race – May 25, 2012 – Camp Rockmont – Black Mountain, NC

It looks like Shiloh Mielke is the perpetual champion at the Rock 2 Rock Race. After finishing second to Matt Morse at the Bearwallow Beast earlier this month, Shiloh turned the tables and finished 27 seconds ahead of Matt at yesterday’s Rock 2 Rock Race.

Chick-Fil-A Race Series 5k – June 23, 2012 – Asheville, NC

This is part of a larger Chick-Fil-A race series with events taking place in a couple dozen southeastern U.S. locations. So I’d say get your costume out and chick this race out. There are a couple of attractive features – a low price ($20 pre-race and you get a shirt) and 5 year age groups all the way up to 75-79, followed by 80+.

The race takes place at Biltmore Baptist Church and the 5k starts at 9:15 (there’s also a 1 mile race).

Chick-fil-A Tunnel Road Drive-Thru and Chick-fil-A South Asheville are hosting the Chick-fil-A Race Series of Asheville, North Carolina on June 23rd! This race will not only earn you points for the Asheville race but also for the national Chick-fil-A Race Series. More information about the national series at http://www.cfaraceseries.com.

This race will offer: Chip Timing, USATF Certified course, Tech shirts, as well as an incredible atmosphere for the entire family and a chance to win Chick-fil-A for a Year!

Directly beside the finish line of each race there will be a free Family FunZone. The Family FunZone provides a fun, free, and family friendly activity area filled with several inflatables. The Family FunZone attracts families with children from birth to 12 years of age.
